CASTILLÉJAR
is a small
village
of around 2100 inhabitant, which lies to the northeast
of the Granada province, at some 776 m above sea level.
Due to its proximity to both the Castril Sierra Natural
Park Castril and Cazorla, it is an excellent stop-off
along the various tourist routes of the Sierra de Baza
and Sierra de Castril Natural Parks, the Negratín
Resevoir, Sierras de la Sagra, and local archeological
finds. |
|
| CAVE-HOUSES.
One of the most unique characteristics of this area
are its cave houses. In Castilléjar you can visit the
Cruz nieghbourhood with its many cave houses, the
historical caves of La Balunca and La Morería. Nowadays
the cave houses have the same home comforts as a normal
home. The original arquitecture excavated in rock has
the added advantage of being cut off from outside noises
and maintains an inside temperature of around 16-20
degrees year round. |
|
| HISTORY OF THE HOUSES CAVES.
The first data on the existence of Caves as housing
dates from the Middle Ages, during the occupation of the
Arabs, due to emigration and sporadic thanks to the ease
of its construction. His biggest boom occurred in the
Kingdom of Granada, favored by the characteristics of
the terrain. |
